DISCLAIMER: If you want to post spoilers, feel free. But if you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t read this thread for your own safety.

So, I saw The Force Awakens yesterday in the UK.
I personally thought it was a great return to a loved universe. The introduction of a new generation was done so well that it didn’t dwarf the old cast.
I few more explanations of things could have helped, like how we got to this point, but that has been explained in the books. But I’ve been waiting ten years since Episode III for this one to come out, and it’s been worth it. J.J. Abbrams has done a really good job with this, and I could easily say that this new episode has been far better than the prequels.

    A few things I didn’t necessarily like;
It was very reminiscient of A New Hope, to the extent it looked kind of similar. A resistance against ‘The New Order’ which ends with an attack of starfighters against an enormous space station. A main character dies inside this space station, There’s even a small trench run again with less emphasis. But the saber fight and twist on who has the force powers was really nice. The trailers made it seem like Finn was the one to be the new Jedi, but the twist was something I was not expecting.

So what are your opinions? Did you like it? Hate it? Prefer it to the prequels?
Feel free to post spoilers, just post (SPOILER) in your post.

my thoughts is it is better than the original trilogy not as as good as the prequels.

    main issues

Kilo ren is the worst villain in the whole of this universe

the empire is a lot more like space Nazis than they were in the originals pluss I can’t take them seriously because of the originals so a new villain would have done more justice

Daisy ridly’s acting is wooden JJ even said this day one of shooting and it does not look like she stepped it up she was easisy out performed by oscar isac and John I think she really needs to up her game.

the film is too similar to episode four it’s just the same plot retold with new things please be original.

Disney the biggest issue with the film.

    what was good.

    the action

    the CGI and practical balance

    the original cast

the saber fights taking from the prequels and striping back as the characters are not that experienced and they did not look like bunch of people timidly hitting each other with a stick like the originals did.

I was literally going on the forums to start this thread XD
But seriously my friends and I discussed this at like 2 at IHOP after we saw it, so I have some opinions.
I think this was just a bit too much like New Hope, but then again they improved in some ways. The threat is a lot greater(not really better because they were desperately playing the underdog card in a way), and I actually felt slightly traumatized when the weapon destroyed those 6 planets at once like that. The Stormtroopers were actually effective this time around if you notice, so I could take them seriously, and they also humanized them so they’re not just grunts anymore.
Also, when you notice that Keilo Wren wasn’t fully on board with the Dark Side at first. And it was actually believable almost that he might just return to the light side. If I didn’t watch the trailer nad notice something hadn’t yet happened, then I would’ve been sold. But the perspective that they consider the light side temptation as we consider the dark side temptation was really interesting to consider.

I very much enjoyed it. It was probably one of the most enjoyable of all films, maybe not my FAVORITE. But so much happened, the characters were all very interesting and likeable, and they really executed the Star Wars feel perfectly.

I think it was a bit silly that they built ANOTHER death-star-like-thing, and again it had a simple weakness that can be taken out by small fighters. You think they would have learned after the first two lol.

To be fair to the empire, dropping out of hyperspace at that low orbit is almost guarenteed to be suicide, so taking out the planetary shield was virtually impossible without an inside man. And the power regulator barely took any damage from the outside, and they had to go in and place bombs everywhere before someone could actually finish the job and take it out. So it was by no means a simple weakness that could be taken out by small fighters. More like a small cruiser with a lot of ground support.
Still, they went a bit too classic with the literal star destroyer planet in my opinion

After seeing Force Awakens for the second time, I can confidently say that it is my favourite Star Wars Movie by far. A little too similar to Episode IV for its own good, however the amount of sheer intensity and original story and content far outweighs the cost of a similar idea to Episode IV. The characters were perfectly built, including the OT characters were amazingly used with their emphasis on the story but keeping the focus on the new characters. Kylo Ren was the finest Star Wars villain I’ve ever seen without question, followed by Vader, The Grand Inquisitor, and Cad Bane. He is terrifying with the mask on, and mask removed I found him even scarier. To notice that he has done such horrible things, but looks like a normal regular person. It made him far scarier and unpredictable.

Daisy Ridley’s acting was a little stale at the very start, but it must’ve been very difficult to have your first conversation be with a droid. Speaking of droids, BB-8 was absolutely spectacular. One of the best additions to this film, being awesomely balanced between funny and serious. The thumbs-up had me laughing for a solid 10 minutes, I am not lying.

All in all I absolutely loved this film, and nailed the magic and soul of the Star Wars universe. I am VERY excited to see what comes in Episode VIII, and to see Rogue One.

    10/10

    Cordless notes:
Rey vs Kylo was the best Lightsaber fight ever.
Phasma was criminally underused, but was still amazing in every scene. She really is a Boba-Fett like character.
C-3P0 had an absolutely hilarious entrance.
    Admiral Ackbar returns!
I am starting to lean into the theory of Supreme Leader Snoke being Darth Plaguis
